Our Vision

"Intentionally choosing where we live and how we live to spread faith, hope, and love in all of the city."

Intentionally choosing where we live and how we live:

  • If we want to reach all of the city, we must prayerfully consider where God would have us live. Choosing where we live is about more than convenience, school districts, home values, etc... It's about saturating a geography with the hope of the Gospel through faithful presence, and faithful proclamation.

To spread faith, hope, and love in all of the city:

  • Faith in the finished work of Christ.

  • Hope in the promises of God for the future.

  • Love as the way of Jesus for the renewal of the city.

Our Ministry

Worship |

Worship is at the center of our purpose as a Church. Every missional thing we do is towards the greater end that lost people would be found by Jesus, and enjoy him (with us) forever. Worship also happens to be the only lasting motivation for justice work, mercy ministry, or evangelism. It’s fuel for the Christian life. Lastly, worship is what binds us together and makes a diverse community possible. It reminds us of what we share in common, and the great cost of Christ to secure it for us.

Spiritual Formation |

In the busyness of American life, Spiritual Formation Practices have played a back seat in the life of a believer. Spiritual disciplines are often the first thing to go, when our day gets away from us. In a digital age, full of distractions, it’s easy to abandon these soul renovating practices all together. Learning to practice rhythms of meeting with God in solitude, hearing from Him through His word, and enjoying communion with Him through prayer and fasting are essential in our pursuit of holiness and Christ-likeness. This is the backbone of our witness in the world. Fruit will never bear itself out on the branches of our lives, if we’re not first rooted, and grounded in the love of Christ. This is the gift of abiding.

Love |

Paul summarizes the entire law in this one command in Galatians 5. This is the overflow of our worship, and our communion with God. As we abide in Christ, the life of Christ can’t help but make its way out into our lives, through love. This drives us into deeper life together (as the Church), it drives us to care for the individuals who are lost, and struggling around us, and it drives us to address the systems of injustice that might be dishonoring the image of God in our neighbors. This call to love is the telos of our maturity in Christ. There is no reason to become more like Jesus, if we aren’t learning to do the things Jesus did. We retreat to be alone with God, that we might advance towards our neighbors in love, as faithful representatives of Jesus.

Build |

This call to seek God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven is a call towards holy discontentment. We cannot look at communities that have been ravaged by injustice, racism, and poverty, and be content to sit around until Jesus returns to do something about it. We’re called to look at the incongruence between earth and heaven, (our neighborhood and God’s Kingdom) and work to see our community look more like heaven, than it did when we found it. The Gospel is good news that God is making all things new. That renewal project was inaugurated because of the empty grave, and we want to claim that promise, and lean forward into it, as we rest in the reality that God will finish what he’s started. This gives us reason to work hard in the face of adversity, and hope to believe that no matter how bleak the future might appear, we know that God will keep his promise to renew all things.

We live in the love of God

We do everything because of God’s everlasting love. We worship God because we’re in awe of His love. We obey God because we trust in His love. We spend time with God so we can grow in His love. We love others so we can reflect His love. We share the Gospel so we can invite others into God’s love. We live in the love of God.

We live to make Jesus make sense

In America, our access to information has never been stronger, but our grip on truth has never been weaker. We want to speak a clear Gospel into that environment, and live lives that clearly reflect the hope of the Gospel. America doesn’t need a Gospel enslaved to a political party, or the American dream. We need Jesus, and we need his message of grace, justice, and hope to make sense. The only way we can make Jesus make sense is if our lives reflect his life, and our message reflects his message. We live to make Jesus make sense.

03

We prioritize the next generation

We are unapologetically devoted to the next generation. We will give our time, energy and resources to see the next generation develop a God-centered world view. We want the next generation to see that faith isn’t the only thing relevant for life... the Church can and should be as well. We prioritize the next generation.

We fight for each other

In a religious landscape often known better for its dividing lines, than for its common ground, we’re committed to fighting… but not with each other. We’re committed to fight for each other. With love as our greatest weapon, we’re committed to “live in harmony with one another.” Sometimes that feels like a struggle - because it is. But people are never the enemy we struggle against. “Our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” We fight for each other.

We have no spare parts

The Church is not made up of varsity, or junior varsity (we don’t have a starting 5 either). To be a Christian is to be sealed by, and empowered by the Spirit of God. “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” Each of us has a unique role to play, and if anyone sits out, we all suffer their absence. We are committed to helping every member of One Community Church discover their Spirit-giftedness, providing clear pathways for them to use their gifts to build up the Church, and bless the world. We have no spare parts.

06

We manage everything with open hands.

Everything we have belongs to God. We are stewards (managers) of everything that God has entrusted to us. Whether it’s our story, or our money, we want to hold everything with open hands recognizing it ultimately belongs to God. We can’t take anything with us when we die… so let’s spend everything to make Jesus known, and to make earth look more like heaven. We are open-handed managers.

We do Justice

We live in a Country haunted by injustice. The Bible offers a clear definition of justice, and an even clearer pathway towards its pursuit. We are called to build systems that honor and dignify every human being as an image bearer of God. We won’t settle for anything less. Any law that doesn’t honor the image of God in our neighbor is a law that needs to be dismantled and reimagined.  “Justice is what love looks like in public.” We do justice.
